Help! My Windows Are Fogged, What Do I Do?

Shows fogged window before and replacement glass after.

We get a lot of calls from customers who have foggy windows.  You know – windows that look foggy or milky, and no matter how hard you try, you just can’t get them “clean”.

The cause is seal failure.  Over time, the seals in an insulated unit fails and allows moisture inside, between the two glass panes.  It can occur much quicker if the glass window is exposed to constant moisture. This could be things like a water sprinkler pointed toward the window or when the window is in a steam room/sauna/hot tub area.  To get a little more technical, “normal” failure happens when weather conditions on the outside pane are different from the inside pane – the panes expand and contract at different rates eventually causing the seal to fail.

The fix?  Replace the glass unit.  Unless the frame has been damaged, such as by hail or tree limbs, then you shouldn’t have to replace the frame.  Replacing the glass unit is a much more efficient way to improve your homes appearance and efficiency.

Our insulated glass window units come with a standard 5-year or an optional 10-year warranty against seal failure.
